goodwyn, it's better than you'd ever imagine

Anthony Gonzales will lure you in; to a new world, a new experience, over and over. It's intruiging, to say the least. And with every new release he somehow manages to reinvent himself; from the concious and hectic modernism of 'Before the Dawn Heals Us' to the ghastly, dreamy pop-production that is 'Saturdays = Youth', M83 has yet again found a way to enchant us in a new setting, even more epic than the former productions. He has done it again.

After the first minute into the intro of M83's latest production 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming' I was hooked. And I'm quite confident you will be too. The boiling build-up and the mesmerizing increase in tension just makes it impossible not be at least a little bit curious to where the rest of the album will take you, and yeah, quite the journey it certainly is. I'd consider 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming', to be a step back to his roots, in contrast to his previous album 'Saturdays = Youth', containing that "soundtrack"-ish feel, though it still has the epic pop-tracks (which was what essentially pushed him into fame four years ago) in 'Midnight City', 'Claudia Lewis' and 'Steve McQueen'. While the songs that wouldn't be considered as "hit singles" work as more of a transfer between those that do, they're certainly distances you wouldn't want to skip (i.e. the incredibly subtle but enchanting track 'Train to Pluton'. It's a story, an incredibly well tied-together story. There aren't many artists that manage to create such consisting albums as M83, and that essentially is what makes this the second greatest album of 2011. The consistency of quality is absolutely astonishing. Someone needs to make a movie to go with this album, maybe like Kanye West did with the short movie 'Runaway' for his latest solo release 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy'.

the second greatest album of 2011 is

M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming

below you will find the four categories i had to add:

The last thing to leave a man is hope, therefore: New album by The Postal Service

i will never stop hoping for a new release by the postal service. ever since releasing their first album in 2003, the duo (jenny lewis should also be mentioned here) of ben gibbard (death cab for cutie), jimmy tamborello (dntel) has constantly been hinting at another release, without results. at this moment, the possibility of a follow up to 'give up', which i'd consider to be one of, if not the best pop albums of all time, seems to be non-existent. but... maybe?
If it does, nostalgia will never disappoint (right!?), therefore: New album by The Shins

and here we have it, in march the shins will finally follow their 2007 album 'wincing the night away', after james mercer taking some time off with his and dangermouse's side-project 'broken bells'. having heard some tid-bits from the new album, i have a good feeling. and for me, the shins don't have to be excellent, they just have to be the shins. if they are, they will be good, and i will be happy.  'cause if they are, nostalgia will take the wheel.
But neither will excellence, therefore: New "solo" album by Kanye West

let's face it; whatever you might think of kanye west, i know i hated him, his 2010 release is a fantastic album. he himself is nothing short of a great producer, say what you will about his rap, and with 'my beautiful dark twisted fantasy' kanye is essentially staging his own award show, an absolutely action-packed rollercoaster of starpower and emotion. i have no idea of where the future will lead, but we may find out soon. besides getting an eventual solo album, we have the follow up to 'watch the throne' as well as a 'g.o.o.d. music' compilation hitting the surface of the earth this year.
However, blown up shit will, therefore: Beyoncé - '1+1'

hands down, the most overrated song of this year. of a very long time. this is just bad, i remember a certain veiron flux playing this to me when it first hit the internet, and we could both instantly agree on that the hilarious raise in pitch at 'YOU' is nothing but ridiculous. and what's the deal with her not knowing much about 'algebah'? she's one of the most famous female artists on the planet, and nowhere along the line someone told here that, "bitch, it's algebra!". i love me some beyoncé, but this is crap. listen to 'i miss you' instead. (and also 'why don't you love me' since noone seems to have heard that one.)
